SaskTel workers vote in favour of potential strike action over contracts

REGINA – Unifor says workers at SaskTel have voted in favour of potential strike action as contract negotiations with the crown corporation continue.

The union says members will hold off on any strike action until all sides sit down for three days of negotiations starting August 12.

Dave Kuntz, president of Unifor Local 1-S, says he’s hopeful that an agreement can be reached before any strike action to avoid disruptions to the public.

The union says members are pushing for improvements to job security, provisions related to mental health and compensation.

There are about 1,800 members of Local 1-S who work at SaskTel across southern Saskatchewan.

The crown corporation has about 1.35 million customers and some 3,700 full-time equivalent employees.
