ELECTION 2015: Shocker in Kelowna-Lake Country; Liberals win

KELOWNA – Liberal candidate Stephen Fuhr has upset a Conservative dynasty in Kelowna-Lake Country.

Fuhr has been declared the unofficial winner in the riding.

Conservative Party of Canada incumbent Ron Cannan took 56 per cent of the vote in the 2011 federal election, one of the widest margins in the country, but he couldn't hold onto his seat tonight, Oct. 19.

The riding was created in 1996 from a piece of the former Okanagan Centre riding and was renamed Kelowna-Lake Country in 2003.

A right-of-centre political party has held it since 1997 including the Reform Party, and the Canadian Alliance, which eventually merged with the Progressive Conservative Party to come the Conservative Party of Canada.

There were 86,934 eligable voters heading into today's election.
