Christy Clark drops election writ today for Westside-Kelowna by-election

Premier Christy Clark announced this morning the by-election for Westside Kelowna will take place in 28 days. That means constituents will be headed to the polls next month, Tuesday, July 10th.

The Okanagan seat became vacant when MLA Ben Stewart announced he was stepping aside June 5 and resigned June 11.

Clark dropped the writ this morning and says she fully intends to be out door-knocking during her campaign. During a phone interview with AM1150 this morning Clark said she looks forward to spending 28 days of summer in Kelowna, where she will be staying at her second residence with her son.

She also announced Ben Stewart will be her campaign chair. While she has yet to confirm whether she will participate in an all-candidates debate, she says she looks forward to debating with NDP candidate Carole Gordon and B.C. Conservatives candidate Sean Upshaw.

The Liberal party celebrated victory in the May provincial election but Clark lost her seat in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding.
