VIDEO: West Kelowna restaurant vandal caught on camera smashing glass

WEST KELOWNA – The owner of Thai Fusion has had enough and wants the community to see the man who continues to smash his front window. Luke Sumpantarat has shared surveillance footage of a man he believes has been targeting his business. 

Four times this year Sumpantarat has arrived at the restaurant he and his wife have owned since 2010 to find someone had broken almost all the front windows. He can barely keep up with his insurance claims, and because the glass doors are also often broken, he has had to shut his restaurant down numerous times.

He is not yet sure how much income he has lost but the cost to replace the glass runs in the tens of thousands of dollars.

"The RCMP has yet to get back to me about the video," he says in an email. "I have left them voicemails and emails, yet no reply. I think it's time to get the video out there, so maybe someone can give us a tip of who this might be."

RCMP have not returned phone calls to Infonews.ca.

The first time it happened was in the spring, then again in August and twice last month. Once, marbles were used, possibly from a slingshot, then rocks, finally the vandal decided to use something a little more effective. Sumpantarat thinks it was either a pry bar or baseball bat.

"Our windows are getting replaced today, and we'll be open again tomorrow," he says. "We hope this will be the last of these incidents, I truly can't afford for this to happen again."

In the video, a lone man wearing a dark jacket and light-coloured pants runs up to the restaurant just after midnight on Sunday, Oct. 25. His face and head are covered and he appears to be wearing gloves and carrying an aluminum baseball bat.

He takes 14 swings, trying to break every window, but several of the panes are too strong for him and he only manages to break eight.
