100 bottles of wine to be won at Mamas for Mamas fundraiser

KELOWNA – A local charity providing help for single mothers is holding a formal fundraiser this week.

Mamas for Mamas was founded last year by Shannon Christenson. In just one year, the organization has collected more than 5,000 members and helped dozens of families.

“We need your help to continue supporting our struggling mamas and their kids at the most basic levels,” she says. “Funds raised at this event will go to opening our non-profit childcare centre with mama mental wellness programs available to all our kids' parents and programs for the mamas we serve in our community.”

Last Christmas, Mamas for Mamas helped a single mom replace presents for her kids that were stolen on Christmas Eve and in February they helped a family that just recently moved to Kelowna from Saskatoon who lost all their possessions in a car crash.

The latest fundraiser, set for Friday, Nov. 13, takes place at the Laurel Packinghouse and will feature a photo booth, free champagne and appetizers and a silent auction. There will also be a mechanical bull riding contest and a raffle with the winner getting more than 100 bottles of wine.

Items on auction include a two-night stay at a four-star horseback riding resort, a Big White ski package, a turkey deep fryer, a four-hour wine tour, a 10-person, four-hour bus wine tour, art donated by local artists, yoga packages, Costco memberships and more.

There will be live music by Jordan Dean and a DJ will also help guests loosen up. The event will be MC'd by Country 100.7 hosts Casey Clark and Roo Phelps.

Tickets can be purchased at the Mamas for Mamas website or at the OK Corral liquor store.
