Swiss arrest suspected extremist upon return from Turkey

GENEVA – The Swiss federal prosecutor’s office says authorities have detained a Swiss national in Zurich upon his return from Turkey on suspicion of links to jihadi groups in Syria and Iraq.

Spokesman Andre Marty said the man, identified only as a 21-year-old from the French-speaking part of Switzerland, was detained at the Zurich airport on June 8 and has been placed in pre-trial detention.

Swiss authorities had opened criminal proceedings against the suspect already in February.
