TORONTO – Alex Nedeljkovic made 34 saves for the shutout and Martin Necas had a goal and an assist as the Charlotte Checkers blanked the Toronto Marlies 5-0 on Sunday in American Hockey League action.
Trevor Carrick, Andrew Poturalski, Julien Gauthier and Morgan Geekie rounded out the scoring for the Checkers (27-8-3), the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.
Kasimir Kaskisuo made 25 saves in a losing effort for the Marlies (17-14-5), the Toronto Maple Leafs’ farm team.
The Checkers went 1 for 4 on the power play. The Marlies were scoreless in two opportunities with the man advantage.
