The Latest: Millett holds small lead in Anchorage House race

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Latest on Alaska legislative races (all times local):

9:50 a.m.

Votes counted on election day show state House Majority Leader Charisse Millett with a 45-vote lead over Democratic challenger Pat Higgins in an Anchorage legislative race.

Republican Reps. Liz Vazquez and Cathy Munoz trailed their challengers with absentee and questioned ballots still outstanding.

Anchorage independent Jason Grenn held an election-night lead of about 220 votes over Vazquez. Democrat Justin Parish led Munoz by about 180 votes.

Kodiak Republican Rep. Louise Stutes had a lead of just under 100 votes over unaffiliated candidate Duncan Fields. Anchorage Republican Rep. Lance Pruitt led Democrat Harry Crawford by about 120 votes.

State law allows any candidate who believes there were election mistakes to seek a recount.

The state bears the cost of any recount if the difference in the vote count was 20 or less or was less than 0.5 per cent of the total number of votes cast for the two candidates.
