Bahamas military recovers body from small plane crash at sea
NASSAU, Bahamas – Authorities in the Bahamas say a body has been recovered from the waters off Andros Island where a small plane with six people on board is believed to have crashed.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Forces says in a statement Thursday that military divers and patrol aircraft are searching the area off North Andros. A debris field and a body were spotted in rough seas by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew the night before.
Aviation officials say the twin-engine Piper Aztec was en route from Andros to Nassau on Wednesday when air traffic control lost contact with the plane.
The pilot of the six-seat aircraft has been identified as Bahamian. Information about the others on board has not been released.
