Road closed, evacuation possible for wildfire burning northwest of Kelowna, B.C.

KELOWNA, B.C. – Provincial and local crews are battling a wildfire burning northwest of Kelowna, B.C.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations says in a tweet that the Cinnibar Creek fire is estimated to be about 2.8 hectares.

The agency has issued an evacuation alert, warning residents of two nearby camps and a resort that they may need to leave at a moment’s notice.

Fire information officer Max Birkner says no structures are currently being threatened by the blaze.

Air tankers and seven B.C. Wildfire Service firefighters have joined crews from the Wilson’s Landing Fire Department to fight the flames.

The province says the fire has closed Westside Road in both directions from Bear Creek to Fintry. (The Canadian Press, CKIZ)
