Kelowna canine crime fighter retires after successful career

KELOWNA – He’s taken millions of dollars worth of drugs and drug money off the streets but also enjoys his time visiting sick kids in the hospital.

RCMP service dog Whiskey has retired after eight years on the job in the Okanagan and Kamloops.

Since he graduated with honours from the Police Dog Training Centre in Alberta in 2007, Whiskey’s work has resulted in the seizure of over $2.5 million worth of drugs and cash, according to a media release.

“Whiskey is every man's, woman's and child's best friend,” Premier Christy Clark says in the release. “We thank him for his eight years of loyal service in Kamloops, Kelowna and throughout the Okanagan."

Along with his crime fighting abilities, the hard-working canine was also a fixture at local hospitals, helping to deliver stuffed toys to children.

"Police Service Dogs are truly exceptional creatures and Whiskey is a fine example of their incredible work ethic and strong character,” Minister of Public Safety Mike Morris says.

While Whiskey enjoys his well-deserved retirement from crime fighting, he still plans to visit sick kids at hospitals in the region.
