Prosecutor considering charges after girl, 2, wanders from home to Detroit-area gas station
HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Prosecutors are reviewing a warrant request for two Detroit-area parents whose 2-year-old daughter left their apartment, crossed a darkened street and tried to buy candy at a nearby gas station.
Wayne County prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Maria Miller says Wednesday that no decision has been made on whether to charge the Highland Park couple.
WDIV-TV posted a video (http://bit.ly/1DBwF4O ) of the incident in the Detroit enclave.
Store surveillance video shows the girl crossing the street and parking lot, open the door to the business and plop a couple of pennies on the counter late Thursday night. She wore a hooded, winter jacket.
The gas station’s owner locked the doors and called 911. Officers found the girl’s stepfather about 45 minutes later.
WDIV says police are pursuing child endangerment and neglect charges.
