Vernon RCMP amping up presence for New Year’s Eve

VERNON – Police will be out in full force in the North Okanagan on New Year’s Eve.

That’s the reminder Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy is giving in advance of this Thursday’s New Year’s celebrations.

“Our communities can expect to see road blocks, roving traffic patrols and foot patrols of bar areas, as well as our usual policing efforts,” Noseworthy said in a media release.

Officers are encouraging people to plan ahead to safely ring in the New Year.

“Organize a designated driver, driving hands, a cab, or plan to stay at a friend’s house,” Noseworthy said.

The detachment is also asking anyone who witnesses criminal activity, like drunk driving, to phone their local police detachment, or 911 immediately. You can also report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
