DUBLIN – A Canadian diplomat who became a national hero when he shot a jihadi gunman inside the Ottawa parliament has tussled with a protester at a military ceremony in Dublin.

Kevin Vickers, Canada’s ambassador to Ireland, grabbed a man who was shouting “This is an insult!” near a memorial service for British soldiers killed during a 1916 rebellion against British rule.

Vickers grabbed the man and held him before police moved in to arrest the protester.

Vickers was sergeant-at-arms of the Canadian parliament when Michael Zehaf-Bibeau burst into the building on Oct. 22, 2014, after killing a soldier outside. Vickers, a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer, and a policeman killed the attacker in a gunfight.

The Canadian Embassy in Dublin declined to comment on Thursday’s incident.
