Military doing security review following guilty plea by navy spy: Toews

CALGARY – Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews (TAVES) says the Department of National Defence is reviewing security as a result of Canada’s naval spy case.

Sub-Lt. Jeffrey Paul Delisle (deh-LYLE’), an intelligence officer with the Royal Canadian Navy, pleaded guilty Wednesday to passing military secrets to Russia.

Delisle transferred sensitive information onto a thumb drive from a secure location before passing it to a Russian operative.

Toews says he doesn’t think the case is hurting Canada’s reputation with allies such as the United States and Britain.

He says the Americans have had similar breaches and a free flow of information continues.

He won’t comment on Delisle until he has been sentenced.
