National Energy Board says TransCanada has broken rules, launches audit

CALGARY – The National Energy Board says it’s concerned Calgary-based pipeline giant TransCanada Corp. has broken the regulator’s rules, as well as its own.

In a letter to a TransCanada vice-president, the board says an employee raised concerns over “regulatory non-compliance” in May.

The board does not describe which rules were broken or on which pipeline, but says the safety of people and environment were not threatened.

It says TransCanada conducted an internal investigation that verified the whistleblower’s claims, and that it has completed, or is in the process of completing, what needs to be done to fix the problem.

But the NEB says it’s undertaking its own audits and inspections on TransCanada.

The NEB add it won’t hesitate to “impose appropriate corrective actions.”
