NEW YORK, N.Y. – Celebrities including Kathleen Turner and Ellen Burstyn will honour Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday by reading plays that deal with that dark time in history.
The first everRemembrance Readings program will connect numerous theatre groups across the country, including The Old Globe in San Diego, The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, the Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta, and the Untitled Theater Company #61 of Washington, D.C.
The plays to be read include “The History of Invulnerability” by David Bar Katz, “The Revisionist” by Jesse Eisenberg, “The Soap Myth” by Jeff Cohen, and “Our Class” by Tadeusz Slobodzianek, which will be read at The Temple Emanu-El Skirball Center in New York City by Turner, Burstyn, Boyd Gaines, Mamie Gummer and Austin Pendleton.
The event, launched by the National Jewish Theater Foundation, will draw upon the over 600 plays in their newly created Holocaust Theater Catalog at the University of Miami, the first comprehensive archive of theatre materials related to the Holocaust.
