Police share suspicions concerning murder of 5-year-old boy in Montreal in 1985
Montreal police believe a man who committed suicide in 1993 was behind the murder of a five-year-old boy in 1985.
Denis Roux-Bergevin was last seen near his home and was found dead three days later in Brossard, south of Montreal.
Police say they recently met with his mother to tell her an inmate committed suicide the day before he was scheduled to take a lie-detector test in connection with Roux-Bergevin’s murder.
While police did not reveal his name, The Canadian Press has learned he was Jean-Baptiste Duchesneau, who was found guilty of murder in the slaying of a seven-year-old girl in 1974 as well as the sexual assault of another young girl.
It is unclear why police waited so many years before speaking to the mother.
