PEGGYS COVE, N.S. – The RCMP wasn’t able to start a recovery operation on Thursday after a 25-year-old man was swept into the Atlantic Ocean a day earlier from the rocky edges of Peggy’s Cove.
The Mounties say on Twitter that sea conditions didn’t allow an underwater recovery team to be deployed and they will assess sea conditions again on Friday.
The man’s name has not been released.
Police said the man, who is from Ontario, and a woman he was travelling with were walking along the water’s edge when a large wave swept him into the ocean around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
A search on Wednesday included help from a Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre helicopter and three coast guard vessels.
It was concluded about six hours after the man was swept into the water.
