Baird blasts UN rapporteur on Palestinian territories for bias against Israel
GATINEAU, Qc – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird says a United Nations special investigator’s latest criticism of Israel is part of a disturbing pattern.
Canada joined Israel and the U.S. in calling for the removal of Richard Falk, the UN’s special rapporteur onhuman rights in the Palestinian territories.
Falk called for a boycott of companies that have dealings with Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem until they measure up to international rights standards.
Baird says Falk’s latest report is part of a pattern of bias towards Israel.
The minister calls Falk’s comments offensive, unhelpful and outrageous.
Baird echoed calls for Falk’s removal.
