Exit poll: opposition candidate wins 1st round of Poland’s presidential vote, runoff needed

WARSAW, Poland – Nationalist opposition candidate Andrzej Duda has won most votes in the 1st round of Poland’s presidential election and will face incumbent Bronislaw Komorowski in May 24 runoff.

In a surprise result Sunday, Duda won 34.8 per cent of votes, defeating Komorowski, who won 32.2 per cent of votes.

Komorowski said the result was a “serious warning” to those who want to have a “reasonable Poland.”

No candidate has won more than 50 per cent of votes needed to avoid a runoff.
