Tigers catcher Alex Avila scratched because of sore right arm, replaced by Gerald Laird

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have scratched catcher Alex Avila from their starting lineup for Game 4 of the World Series and replaced him with Gerald Laird.

Avila, in Sunday night’s original starting lineup, has been playing with a sore right arm since he was hit between the elbow and wrist by a foul tip in the opener.

Laird is 0 for 3 against San Francisco in the Series and Avila is 1 for 7.
