Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley excited at Maple Leafs signing Mike Babcock

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs’ US$50-million investment in new coach Mike Babcock got a thumbs-up from Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley on Friday.

“More than the (salary) numbers, I’m excited,” Bradley said after practice. “Excited for the Leafs, excited for the city.

“I think it shows again how committed MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment) is to everything they’re doing. I don’t pretend to be a hockey expert but I follow things and I know that Mike Babcock’s reputation is second to none in terms of a coach, in terms of a man. … I’m excited to watch.”

Bradley’s 2014 salary was listed at US$6.5 million by the MLS Players Union.

Asked if he planned to ask for a raise, Toronto coach Greg Vanney demurred.

“I’ve got to win a lot more games before that happens,” he said dryly.
