Laid-back llama on the lam now up back from day of freedom in Armstrong, B.C.

VERNON, B.C. – An animal auctioneer says a llama that made a run for freedom before it was to be auctioned off in Armstrong, B.C., could use a home with a high fence.

Don Raffan of Valley Auction says the animal that he named Bert took off from the back of a pickup truck and spent a day on its own before being rounded up last week.

Raffan says a silent auction for Bert will end Wednesday and proceeds will be donated to B.C. Children’s Hospital.

Lorena Kloppenburg who’s also with Valley Auction says Bert is a laid-back character who was originally thought to be an alpaca, which are typically about half the size of llamas.

She says the llama ran across a highway and strolled through a sawmill before taking refuge in a backyard during his day-long retreat.

Kloppenburg says Bert is now happily chomping on hay in his pen and lapping up attention. (CKIZ, The Canadian Press)
