KELOWNA – A Canadian journalist who was kidnapped, tortured and raped in Somalia will speak at a refugee fundraiser in Kelowna this spring.
Amanda Lindhout, 34, was taken hostage by Islamic insurgents and held in Somalia for 460 days. In her bestselling book A House in the Sky she talks about being tortured and raped before eventually being released after her family paid a ransom.
On June 6 Lindhout will be at Trinity Baptist Church speaking about her experiences and what they taught her. Organized by the Central Okanagan Refugee Committee, the fundraiser will benefit refugees from around the world.
Tickets to the event are $30 if purchased before March 31.
For more information, visit the Central Okanagan Refugee Committee website or this Facebook event page.
