LIMA, Peru – A Venezuelan artist is giving a voice to the millions who have fled her homeland’s crisis with a new exhibit at Lima’s Museum of Contemporary Art.
Fabiola Arroyo gathered the photographs and artwork of 30 Peruvian and Venezuelan artists reflecting on themes of migration and exile.
“Migrant Chronicles: Common Stories Between Peru and Venezuela” seeks to unite artists from two countries profoundly impacted by migration.
Arroyo is a trained artist and curator who describes the work of those inside and out of Venezuela as an “act of cultural resistance.”
She herself is a migrant who decided to flee Venezuela two years ago, worried her soon-to-expire passport would leave her unable to travel.
The exhibit includes everything from collages to video performances.
More than 800,000 Venezuelans now live in Peru.
