Princeton RCMP arrest person for starting a fire

A suspect was arrested and released without charges after starting a fire in Princeton this past weekend.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire in a open area on Similkameen Avenue Sunday evening, Aug. 9.

The fire did no damage to any structures or property, according to an RCMP release issued today, Aug. 13.

Members of the community helped with the investigation and a person was arrested.

RCMP said the suspect was released on conditions. No word on what charges or fines, if any, the person faces.

No further information will be provided to the public as the investigation continues, RCMP said.

“Any activities that escalate wildfire danger are strictly prohibited and will be addressed immediately,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Dan Pollock said in the release.

“In the context of the province wide state of emergency and the recent evacuations, there will be zero tolerance for any actions that jeopardize public safety.”
