TORONTO – Not everyone can take home a medal, but those looking for a shiny souvenir from this summer’s Pan Am Games now have another option.
The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a series of collector coins to celebrate the Games, which come to Ontario in July.
The collection includes three coins — two silver and one gold-plated — that highlight a specific aspect of the 2015 Games.
The gold-plated coin represents athletic achievement and has the same design as the gold medals to be handed out at the international competition.
The two silver coins showcase the unifying power of sports and the spirit of the Games.
TO2015 CEO Saad Rafi says the coins are “precious keepsakes” that “vividly capture the spirit of a Games that will unite us, inspire us and captivate us.”
