Windstorm blows through Okanagan

OKANAGAN – Homeowners continue the clean up and repair any damage today after a windstorm swept through the Central and North Okanagan on Saturday.

Environment Canada says wind gusts of up to 76 kilometres per hour were recorded in Kelowna yesterday afternoon, March 11. The wind gusted up to 57 km/h in Penticton.

There were reports of high winds in the Lavington and Lumby area. B.C. Hydro says the power was out to over 1,800 customers.

In Kelowna, there are reports of trees knocked down, taking out power and phone lines.

Fire fighters responded to a downed Telus lines on Lewis Road near Black Mountain

McCullough Road was closed yesterday afternoon as crews cleaned up a fallen tree, and power lines were knocked down on Spiers and Gulley Roads, according to a Global Okanagan report.

There are no reports of anyone getting badly hurt in the windstorm.
