Penticton’s newest subdivision takes shape west of the airport

PENTICTON – One of Penticton’s newest neighbourhoods continues to grow on the western benches above the Penticton Regional Airport.

The Skaha Hills subdivision, which has been under development for just over a year, continues to make strong progress on multiple fronts, says Penticton Indian Band Development Corporation Consultant Chris Scott.

He says a townhouse development in the subdivision’s second phase will undergo consumer testing shortly, while 47 homes have been constructed in the development’s first phase.

Skaha Hills' winery, called “Play,” is scheduled to open this spring, surrounded by 14 acres of vineyards operated by the Penticton Indian Band.

Phase Two, which opened last year, has 30 homes sold and eight under construction. Scott says the development is growing at a pace of roughly four units per month.

The environmental assessment of phase three is now complete, with plans for more than 120 single family detached homes to be built. Phase three sales are expected to begin in July as the development’s infrastructure expands.

Scott says the band has a $5.5 million dollar leveraged investment in the subdivision’s infrastructure of roads, sewer, water, telephone, internet and hydro services.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
