Lumby man offering reward for return of stolen motorcycle

LUMBY – A Lumby man has had his new motorcycle taken away from him twice now— the first time by police, and the second by a suspected thief.

Landon Harris was riding his new, 2016 Husqvarna motorcycle Sunday, March 13 when police stopped him and impounded the bike for a week because he was riding it on the road without insurance — something he readily admits to.

The $14,000 bike was impounded at KBM Autoworks & Towing on Vernon Street (Highway 6). Harris was supposed to get it back this Monday, but instead found out that it’s gone — stolen from the locked impound yard. 

“I was pretty surprised,” Harris says.

Lumby RCMP are investigating the theft, which Const. Ted Bowen says is believed to have occurred between the late night hours of Sunday, March 20 and early morning hours of Monday, March 21.

The suspect breached the compound — which has a razor-wire fence — and made off with the bike. Nothing else was taken, except for the license plate from another vehicle, Bowen says.

The suspect was caught on the security cameras and police are reviewing the footage, Bowen says.

Bowen says a number of logging truck drivers can be seen driving past the towing yard in the surveillance video and might have seen something. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time, or who has information, is asked to contact the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-2151 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Meanwhile, Harris is so desperate to get his bike back that he’s offering a $500 reward.

“It was brand spanking new — it had five miles on it,” Harris says. “I just want it back.”
