Double trouble in Lake Country traffic stop
LAKE COUNTRY – A local RCMP officer made a routine traffic stop on Highway 97 earlier this week and unexpectedly made arrests for possession of stolen property and found a bunch of drugs as well.
On Sunday, March 20, the officer stopped a grey Chevrolet Silverado near Lodge Road at 1:20 a.m. and according to a release, noticed a quad in the back of the pickup was covered with a tarp and 'awkwardly secured down with tie down straps in the rear truck bed of the vehicle,' leading him to ask a few more questions.
Sure enough, the grey 2006 Yamaha Grizzly ATV was reported stolen from a business on Feb. 29, 2016.
Police arrested the 39-year-old Kelowna driver and his passenger, a 34-year-old West Kelowna woman, for possession of stolen property over $5,000. They also found a bag suspected to contain crack cocaine, crystal meth, heroin and steroids, adding drug charges to the list.
They were released from custody and are expected to face charges. They are expected to appear in court on May 26.
