Brothers who ran fake airplane loan scheme sent to prison
WORCESTER, Mass. – Two brothers from Chicago who were convicted of using stolen identities to obtain millions of dollars in fraudulent airplane loans from several banks have each been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that 32-year-old Ryan Miller was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Massachusetts to 15 years behind bars, while 31-year-old Dusten James Miller was sentenced to 12 years.
They were convicted in February of bank fraud, money laundering and identity theft-related charges.
Prosecutors say from 2013 until 2016 the brothers posed as airplane buyers and sellers and used the identities of other people and doctored documents to obtain $4 million in loans.
Authorities say they laundered the money through shell companies, and used it to buy luxury homes, cars and other high-end items.
