Kamloops legal clinic taking clients

KAMLOOPS – Low income Kamloops residents have access to new legal services.

Thompson Rivers University has officially opened a free legal clinic at the Centre for Senior’s Information in Brocklehurst.

The clinic will be staffed by students earning credits and practicing practical skills, according to a TRU media release.

The clinic’s supervising lawyer Ted Murray says the clinic can take on files if the client is eligible, the issue isn’t too complex and the issue is one the clinic is focusing — which is currently housing and tenancy, though it will broaden over time.

It’s currently open part time and is funded by the Law Foundation of B.C. for a year, after which new grants and funding for ongoing operations should be in place.

The clinic has been open since February and has dealt with 23 clients.
