By the numbers: phone costs in 42 federal departments using mobile devices

OTTAWA – The federal government tabled some numbers in Parliament this month about its phone bills and usage. Here are some figures from the documents provided to Liberal MP Arnold Chan:

$3.64 million: Total late fees the government accumulated over two years.

$2.42 million: How much the government is still trying to recoup on the grounds that the fees were wrongly charged.

75,000: Phone invoices Shared Services Canada receives monthly.

259,258: Number of landlines in 42 federal departments at the end of the 2014-15 fiscal year.

$131.7 million: Cost for those landlines in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

$507: Approximate cost per line in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

163,386: Number of mobile devices in 42 departments in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

$44.46 million: Cost in the 2014-15 fiscal year for those mobile devices.

$272: Approximate cost per mobile device in the 2014-15 fiscal year.
