WAUKECHON, Wis. – A two-day search for a petting zoo kangaroo who hopped away from a northeastern Wisconsin home has come to an unfortunate end after a hit-and-run accident.
Authorities are now searching for the motorist who struck and killed the baby kangaroo named Lulu on Tuesday night in the town of Waukechon.
Lulu hopped away Sunday after jumping a 3-foot-tall fence her owners’ home.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department says the owners’ spotted Lulu along a road. They told authorities they were trying to coax the red kangaroo into coming closer to them when a truck started driving toward them.
The truck first hit one of the owners, a 69-year-old man. His injuries weren’t life-threatening. The kangaroo was struck next. The motorist drove off.
