Heat bringing out the thieves in Penticton

PENTICTON – The warm weather means a lot more people are out enjoying the weather, and that includes thieves.

A number of stolen property complaints have been filed with local RCMP in the past week, Penticton RCMP police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says.

A 2003 GMC work van, plate number 8933 KN, was stolen Tuesday, April 12, from a paint shop on Industrial Court sometime overnight. A window was smashed at the business and keys were taken from inside the building. Wires on the roof of the building were also cut. The van was recovered April 15 in the Bromley Rock day use area, undamaged, with the keys in the ignition and plates still on the vehicle.

Also discovered Tuesday, April 12, was a theft from tool storage bins at a Patterson Road construction site. Tools and a generator were taken. The generator is a blue Tsurumi 7,000-watt rental unit from Westminster Rental, serial number T130262.

Overnight Tuesday, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, with B.C. license plate 402BCX, was stolen from the 200-block of Elm Street. The vehicle was recovered April 13 on Paris Street.

Waycon Manufacturing was hit by a break-in over the weekend and was reported Monday, April 18. Hand tools and an electric paint gun on a handcart were taken. The RCMP identification section is investigating and possible suspects have been identified.

Penticton RCMP responded to a total of 45 files Monday, April 18. Complaints included stolen license plates, thefts, bicycles, as well as several traffic files.
