Kamloops speeder caught with sawed-off shotgun and drugs

KAMLOOPS – A prohibited driver caught speeding and then found to be in possession of a loaded gun and drugs was arrested early this morning.

A 44-year-old man known to police, and recently from Kamloops, was pulled over after officers witnessed him driving at ‘a high rate of speed’ on Victoria Street early this morning, May 3, Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a release.

The driver was found to be prohibited and while waiting for a tow truck to impound the pickup truck the officer found a loaded 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun inside the truck. The man was then searched and found to have a stash of methamphetamine and heroin in the crotch of his pants.

The man was arrested and held in custody to go before a judge today. Weapons, drug and driving charges are being recommended.
