Paratroopers will drop from D-Day vintage plane in Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio – Paratroopers will drop from a plane used in the D-Day invasion as the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force begins its commemoration of the 1944 attack.

A C-53D Skytrooper named “D-Day Doll’ will carry the Airborne Heritage Platoon paratroopers at Monday’s jump near Dayton, Ohio.

The museum also will show movies about the amphibious assault that led to the liberation of France and the end of the Nazi regime.

Visitors can access tablets that use a French-developed technology called HistoPad. Users can contrast current views of historic sites with detailed re-creations of them, enhanced in this case with video footage, photos and maps and animation. It will be the first use of the technology outside of France.

The museum plans more special events for the75th anniversary on June 6.
