Museum ends excavation of dinosaur fossils in Denver suburb

DENVER – A Colorado museum has completed its excavation of dinosaur fossils and put some of the bones on display.

The Denver Post reports the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has halted its excavation of triceratops fossils at a dig in suburban Denver.

The decision to end the excavation came after paleontologists and other workers concluded there were no more bones to be discovered.

Construction crews uncovered the fossils in May near the Wind Crest retirement community in Highlands Ranch.

Construction continued at the site while the museum team excavated the fossils.

Officials say some of the bones will be placed in the museum’s “Prehistoric Journey” exhibition.

Exhibition volunteers clean and stabilize fossils before they are added to the museum’s collections for future research and possible displays.
