North Shore community police office opens doors at new Kamloops location

KAMLOOPS – People on the North Shore in Kamloops have their community policing office back.

The North Shore community police office reopened today, May 16, at 915 Seventh St. in the former Kamloops Kia building, not far from the previous location near the intersection of Tranquille Road and Fortune Avenue, according to a media release from the city. There's been a community policing office on the North Shore since 2000, but the Fortune Drive location was closed in December 2015 as the transition to the new office started.

The office will provide a variety of services to the neighbourhood, including police information checks and crime prevention.

“In partnership with the City of Kamloops, the new office will provide greater opportunities for us to deliver on our crime prevention and community safety programs and enhance service delivery especially to those citizens living on the North Shore,” RCMP Supt. Brad Mueller says in the release.

Renovations to the former car dealership were originally estimated at $600,000 but skyrocketed to more than $1 million, a cost overun council approved in December 2015.
