TONTO BASIN, Ariz. – Crews searching for a missing hiker in the Tonto National Forest found a body Monday and said it’s been identified as a man missing since last weekend.
Gila County Sheriff’s officials say 44-year-old Shiloh Dorsett of Mesa and another hiker were trying to use Bull Canyon as a water slide when he was swept away by flood waters Saturday.
Dorsett’s friend hiked for miles to find a campground and alert authorities.
A Tonto Rim Search and Rescue crew searched through Saturday night for the missing man in muddy conditions and didn’t find him Sunday either.
The search resumed Monday morning in an area northeast of Roosevelt Lake and sheriff’s officials said the body was located in the afternoon about a half-mile from where Dorsett started his canyon adventure.
Authorities said it’s unclear how Dorsett died.
