Vancouver murder victim had been charged with manslaughter in Burnaby death

VANCOUVER – Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in Vancouver on Monday night in what officers believe was a targeted shooting.

Const. Brian Montague says 20-year-old Samir Mokhtar died in the gunfire in East Vancouver (on Seaforth Drive).

A man by the same name was charged with manslaughter in the death of Aladdin Ramadan in Burnaby in September 2014.

Police previously said the victim in Monday night’s homicide was on bail on a manslaughter charge.

Officers received several 911 calls just before 9 p.m. reporting the sound of gunfire and arrived to find the victim on the side of the road, where he was pronounced dead.

Montague says investigators are asking any witnesses to come forward, including people in nearby Falaise Park who are believed to have fled when they heard shots.
