Sentencing awaits for B.C. man who admits to rape and murder of Penticton senior
PENTICTON, B.C. – A Penticton, B.C., man is waiting to learn how long he will spend behind bars after pleading guilty to the second degree murder of an elderly Okanagan woman.
Corey Wolf Swite entered the guilty plea in B.C. Supreme Court in Penticton during his second trial for raping and smothering 85-year-old Penticton senior, Olive Hill.
The judge has reserved decision after hearing Crown’s request for a life sentence with no parole eligibility for 15 years, while the defence is asking for 10 years before eligibility.
Swite was 21 when he broke into the woman’s home and attacked her in August 2006.
He was originally convicted of first degree murder and faced an automatic life sentence with no parole eligibility for 25 years, but the first conviction was overturned on appeal.
The B.C. Court of Appeal ordered a second trial after finding several procedural errors, including problems with selection of the jury. (CKOR)
