Two young men, teenager, charged with first-degree murder in 2011 slaying

BURNABY, B.C. – A third person has now been charged in connection with murder last December of a 20-year-old man.

Homicide investigations say a 16-year-old, who can’t be identified because of his age, has been charged with first-degree murder and being an accessory after the fact to the slaying of Branson Sanders.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says two men arrested earlier this year in connection with the case have had second-degree murder charges boosted to first-degree murder.

Pound says the pair, Brandon Nandan and Shakib Shakib, have also been charged with indignity to a body.

Pound hasn’t said when the trio are next in court but notes Nandan is currently free on bail while Shakib remains in custody.

Sanders’ badly burned remains were found in a bush in Burnaby on Dec. 2, 2011, after what police believe was some sort of conflict at a Surrey house party.
