TORONTO – Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was pulled from the lineup a little over an hour before opening pitch as Toronto hosted the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
Chris Colabello was slotted in to replace Encarnacion in the Blue Jays batting order.
Encarnacion jammed his left middle finger in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Philadelphia. X-rays came back negative.
It was a costly game for Toronto, as second baseman Devon Travis left the game with irritation in his left shoulder between the second and third innings.
Right-fielder Jose Bautista also left the loss early with cramping in his hamstring and calf. He was back in the lineup on Wednesday as the designated hitter.
