Saskatchewan woman uses her dog’s illness to pick her winning lottery numbers

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – If it weren’t for Barb Taman’s dog getting sick, she might not have won the lottery.

The woman from Moose Jaw, Sask., won $1 million in Lotto 6/49, saying she chose her numbers using a T-9, or predictive text, keyboard and inputting an abbreviation for her dog’s illness.

“I picked the numbers to correspond with the disease he has, and that’s how I won,” she says, explaining that she took the numbers corresponding to “blasto,” short for blastomycosis, on the keyboard.

“I needed one more number so I just put seven, as lucky number seven,” she said.

Taman said that for the first couple of days after she found out she had won, she thought she was going to wake up and it would all turn out to have been a dream.

“You laugh, you cry, it’s a million different things going through your mind.”

Besides vet bills and some investments, Taman said she doesn’t know what she’s going to spend the money on.

“It’s been overwhelming, I’m not even sure yet.”
