Dominic Purcell talks Fox’s ‘Prison Break’ revival, Wentworth Miller and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Dominic Purcell says if you want to thank someone for the idea to reboot Fox’s “Prison Break,” that would be Wentworth Miller.

“‘Prison Break’ wouldn’t happen if Wentworth didn’t want to do it,” Purcell told The Associated Press Monday at a CBS party for the TV Critics Association.

Purcell and Miller played brothers on the popular Fox show. Their story began with Miller’s character getting purposely sent to prison with an elaborate plan to break out his brother, who was on death row. “Prison Break” aired for four seasons from 2005-2009.

Last week, Fox announced it would bring the show back in 2016 for a 10-episode event series.

The two actors will also share the screen on the midseason CW series “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.” Purcell plays Heat Wave, and Miller is Captain Cold.

“Wentworth was the one who suggested me for (‘Legends’),” Purcell said. “The producers said, ‘Do you know anyone that’s kind of a force of nature? That’s rough, that’s edgy, that’s crazy?’ He said, ‘I’ve got just the guy.’ “

Purcell describes “Legends of Tomorrow” as “like ‘Avengers’ every week,” with heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe teaming up to save the world.

The show is a spin-off of both “Arrow” and “The Flash” on The CW.

Purcell says “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” begins shooting in September, and on their summer hiatus, he and Miller will go straight into production on “Prison Break.”

“It’s exciting. I’m in a privileged, unique position,” he said.
