WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors announce formal review of primary team logo
MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors hockey team will conduct a formal review of its primary logo.
The Western Hockey League team announced the review as the next step in an “ongoing internal discussion.”
The current Warriors logo is a hockey stick and a puck inside a stylized silhouette of a side profile of face framed by an Indigenous headdress.
Several sports teams have recently stopped using names considered derogatory to Indigenous communities, including the NFL’s Washington Football Team, the CFL’s Edmonton Football Team and the McGill Redmen of U Sports.
The Warriors said in a statement they would engage with stakeholders and community partners as part of the review process.
