UPDATE – Injured dirt biker rescued near Kamloops

KAMOOPS – A dirt biker who crashed in the wilderness south of Kamloops had to be carried out of the bush by search and rescue teams yesterday afternoon.

Alan Hobler with Kamloops Search and Rescue says they were called to an area off Logan Lake Road, just past Melba Lake at about noon, June 4.

“He took a tumble and went over the handle bars and landed on his head,” Hobler says. “He heard a snapping sound coming from his neck.”

The biker realized he shouldn’t try to get up and walk away, so asked his friends to call 911, which Hobler says was “certainly the right thing to do.”

B.C. Ambulance paramedics loaded the injured biker into a stretcher and six search and rescue volunteers carried him out to a waiting ambulance that took him to Royal Inland Hospital.

“It was really hot and muggy. We had to hike through the forest. It was really hard work. It was at least an hour carrying him out,” Hobler says.

No word on the dirt biker’s current condition, but he was stable when transported to hospital.
